Description
Painite is an extremely rare borate of Ca, Zr and Al; with formula CaZrAl9 (BO3) O15
It is usually offered in the form of small loose crystals. Painites on a rock matrix or in crystals larger than 1 cm are very rare!
Painite is an exceptional mineral, for example, for the following reasons:
– Painite is found only in Burma (Myanmar)
– it contains elements Zr and B, which normally do not occur together in minerals
– The Guinness Book of Records classified painite as the rarest gem in the world in 2005. By 2001, only three pieces were known
