The Iron Meteorite Muonionalusta landed on Earth about 800,000 to 1,000,000 years ago, making it one of the oldest meteorites falls found. It was not found until 1906 and 4 years later it was named after the nearby river Muonia.
The point of impact is located behind the Arctic Circle in the northern part of Sweden near the village of Kitkiöjoki.
During glaciation, the individual pieces were secondarily transported to locations other than the location of the original fall field

Description

The meteorites that can be found have been almost always corroded in thousands of years of stay in glacial moraines.
After cleaning, their unique structure will appear.
The structure is already visible on the surface and after etching it also appears on the section, in the form of so-called Widmanstatten shapes.
Some pieces also contain rare troilite, which occurs exclusively in meteorite irons.
